Random Drivel
Volume 5, Issue 3, April 1998
This is going to be a long one. In addition to the reprinted article, there’s a lot of additional material in there from my friend who inspired the article - the late John Pitchers - and a tribute to the late John Ashworth, who was the lead rider in the original circa 1952 photo that was the catalyst for the column in the first place. This, by the way, is my personal favorite among all 27 years of Grimy Handshake columns, and I am to this day in awe of the conversations and connections that it fostered.
Godspeed Malcolm and John. Wherever you are, may the dirt be tacky and the front grip solid. Thank you both for the inspiration and the friendship.
